What is anime?
I think a good start would be with what is anime. so I looked on the internet for what anime is, I found 2 sites that helped me with the definition of what anime is. both sources were useful anime helped me make a clear definition of what anime is.

Anime is hand-drawn and computer animation that comes from Japan. Anime a term derived from the English word animation. Outside of Japan and in English, anime is colloquial for Japanese animation and refers to animation produced in Japan. For decades anime was only produced in Japan for the last 40 years it has started to become produced internationally, with a similar style to Japanese animation is usually called anime-influenced animation. A characteristic art style emerged in the 1960s with the works of cartoonist Osamu Tezuka and spread into the industry in the following years, other than original works, anime are often adaptations from Japanese comics called manga, light novels, or video games. It is classified into numerous genres targeting various broad and niche audiences. Anime is a diverse medium with distinctive production methods, it puts together graphic art, characterization, cinematography, and other forms of imaginative and unique techniques. Compared to Western animation, anime production generally focuses less on movement, and more on the detail of settings. Diverse art styles are used with anime having the common characteristic feature being large and emotive eyes.
Timeline
Since I would like to look into the history and to write the essay I’ll need sources to reference so I would like to make a timeline of how anime came about and started to get popular. So I searched on the internet, so far, for resources about the history and origins of anime. As in my essay, I would like to go over how anime got popular and its origins. so I searched for the history of anime and found a couple of websites and took notes from them to create a timeline.

In the early 20th century, anime started to be made by the first generation of animators in the late 1910s.
The earliest film can be dated back to 1906.
First anime released in 1917, made on a chalkboard and was less than 5 minutes
animation studios started to suffer during the war and had funding issues but found some through animating propaganda for the government.
During the second world war propaganda films were made titles such as MomotarÅ no Umiwashi (1943) and MomotarÅ: Umi no Shinpei (1945).
In the 1960s, the unique style of Japanese anime began to form, the usual large-eyed, big-mouthed, and large-headed characters.
In 1960 the first anime film was broadcast it was called, three tales.
Astro Boy, created by Osamu Tezuka, premiered on Fuji TV on January 1, 1963. It was one of the first anime to be shown to Western audiences, especially in the United States.
1963 introduced Sennin Buraku as the first "late night" anime.
Anime became popular as studios saw it as a commercial success. Even though no new programs from Japan were shown on major U.S. broadcast media from the later 1960s to late 1970s.
In the 1970s anime started to separate from its western origins and developed its own genres such as mecha and its super robot subgenre.
In the 1980s, anime became mainstream in Japan; it experienced a boom in production with the popularity of anime such as Gundam, Macross, and Dragon Ball.
In the film, Akira set records for production costs and became a success internationally. The same creators made another film in 2004 which became the most expensive anime film. In 2002 spirited away shared the first prize in the Berlin film festival than in 2003 it won for best feature.
